Tolstoy is widely regarded as one of the greatest novelists, particularly because his adi War and Peace and Anna Karenina. In scope, breadth and realistic depiction of Russian life, the two books stand at the peak of realistic fiction. As a moral philosopher he was famous for his ideas on nonviolent resistance through his work The Kingdom of God is Within You, which in turn affect the figures of the 20th century such as Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. ..
Tolstoy was born in Yasnaya Polyana, his family's land is located in the region of Tula, Russia. He was the fourth of five children in the kelaurganya. His parents died when he was a child, so he was raised by his relatives. Tolstoy studied law and Oriental languages at Kazan University in 1844 until he left the University. The lecturers described himself "incapable and unwilling to learn." He returned in the middle of his studies to Yasnaya Polyana and spent much of his time in Moscow and St. Petersburg. After falling into a huge debt because of gambling, Tolstoy accompanied his brother to the Caucasus in 1851 and entered into the Russian Army. Tolstoy began writing about literary periods today. In 1862 he was married to Sofia Andreevna Bers, who was 16 years younger, and they had 13 children.
His marriage to Sofia Bers Andreevna marked at the outset by Tolstoy on her wedding night by giving his diary to his fiancee. Books this diary contains notes about his sexual relationship with the farmers. Even so, their early married life quite happy and calm, and gave Tolstoy much freedom to write a literary masterpiece, War and Peace and Anna Karenina. Marital life later described by ANWilson as one of the most unhappy in the history of literature. His relationship with his wife becomes worse when his conviction became increasingly radical.
